Research states that most women wear worn out or old fashion footwear during monsoon due to the fear of ruining their favorite pair of footwear. But if you are one those girls who loves to get drenched in rain, then here is a perfect guideline for you to romance rain with these trendiest monsoon footwear.
Forget cribbing about having to walk on the rainy streets, and that’s not all; muddy streets can make your clothes dirty and spotted heavily if right kind of footwear is not used during monsoons. Well! Ladies not to worry. Now hit the streets with fun and style. Here are the best rain footwear for you.
Mules and slippers
Rubber mules and slippers in bright shades are a hot pick this season. Brands like Nike, Converse and Tommy Hilfiger have the funkiest slippers around to combat boring footwear. The hottest colours for any footwear this season are hot pink, navy blue, red and orange.
Floaters (Rubber slippers and sandals)
Bright colored 'floaters,' specially made for monsoon are a rage amongst the youth. You can flaunt them with jeans and skirts. Have a look at Nike’s collection of ACGs (All Condition Gear), Floaters specially made for all terrain use and ones to make that trek through muck so much easier.
Flip Flops
If you are a flip-flop fanatic, go for it. They are ideal for the rains and come in fabulous colours. An add on to this pick is, since they are usually made of rubber they dry easily. Puma, Nike have a great collection of floral picks and are a must have for women.
Gold metal stiletto's
This monsoon gold metal stiletto's is turning into a bit of a trend. Many Bollywood actresses are flaunting them in style on their late night parties and even mid-noon shopping events. It is perfect for the rock chic look.
Flat Boots
High heel boots have bid adieu from the fashion stores and flat boots have conquered the heart of monsoon trend setters this year. They are just as sexy and fashionable as high-heel boots. These boots come in tones of suede, leather and crocodile. You cannot ignore it, you will look chic from top to toe whether you pair it with your new skinny jeans or '70s-print mod dress. They look great even when paired with skirts, dresses or pants tucked in or left out.
Rain Boots
Rain Boots are made to protect feet from inclement weather. They are waterproof and are usually made from either rubber or other equivalents. If you are looking for a complete waterproof boots then go for Gore-tex materials. Do not opt for knee-high boots, as it is rated as age old trend today; go for low cut, just above the ankle. If you are planning to flaunt it even in winter then buy one with inner liners of flannel or other warm materials for use in cold weather.
Slouch Boots
Slouch boots are the perfect pick for a printed empire line jersey dress, jeans or skirts of any length. Remember the rule of thumb for the skirt and slouch-boot combo, ' the shorter the skirt, the higher the boot'. While choosing one don't limit yourself to brown or black. Choose a rainbow of colours, as this season is all about color and there's no better way to wear it than with a voguish slouch style.

The DubaiSat-1, the United Arab Emirates' (UAE) first earth observation satellite launched early on Thursday morning from Kazakhstan, has reached its desired position in the earth's orbit, WAM news agency reported.
The 'eye in the sky' satellite has achieved optimal position in orbit around the earth and has successfully connected with the Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology (EIAST) earth observation station in Dubai, the report said, quoting officials.
"With the blessing of Allah, the launch process was completely successful, and DubaiSat-1 is now carrying the UAE's flag into space," said a jubilant Ahmed Al Mansoori, director general of EIAST.
"DubaiSat-1 is undoubtedly a sterling addition to the UAE's strategic accomplishments and what we have achieved so far can be attributed to the hard work and dedication of our national engineers and scientists," he said.
Comparing the achievement with the moon landing, Al Mansoori said: "While the moon landing was a huge leap for humanity, DubaiSat-1 is a huge leap for the UAE's science and technology initiatives, and for our nation's aspirations."
"The satellite will orbit 680 km above the earth with an orbital speed of 27,000 km per hour," he added.
The satellite was launched from Kazakhstan's Baikonour launching ground at 10:40 pm (UAE time) on Wednesday under the supervision of UAE engineers and scientists, who are responsible for more than a third of the project's implementation.
The EIAST confirmed that scientists at the Dubai earth observation station were able to stabilize DubaiSat-1 in its desired position and deployed its solar panels, which will power the satellite for the next five years.
The EIAST will organise a press conference on August 4 to inform the details of the progress and functioning of the satellite.

It’s official: Reduced Salt intake lowers BP
Labels: blood pressure, Health, SALT
Using less amount of salt in diet can lead to slight reduction in blood pressure in the medium term, a new study has claimed.
However, whether in the long term this can also reduce the risk of late complications in people with sustained high blood pressure, otherwise known as essential hypertension, and whether in the long term their anti-hypertensive medication can be reduced remains unresolved, the study by the Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG) concluded.
The study has been published in the form of a rapid report on 20 July 2009. This rapid report is part of a package commissioned by the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA), in which the benefit of various non-drug treatment strategies for high blood pressure are to be assessed. Stress management and more physical activity are also included, as well as giving up smoking and cutting down alcohol consumption.
This rapid report was prepared on the basis of secondary literature. In principle, this can be done if current, high quality systematic reviews are already available on a given topic. This was the case with reducing salt intake in hypertension, as IQWiG''s preliminary search revealed.
To reach the conclusion, IQWiG searched for systematic reviews that compared the following patients with hypertension: an intervention group, which was to follow a low-salt diet over a long period, versus a control group, which either did not have this target or whose salt reduction was not so great as in the intervention group.
The minimum duration of the studies had to be 4 weeks. In order not to overlook any current and potentially relevant studies, IQWiG also conducted an update search of recently published primary studies.
IQWiG was able to include in its assessment 7 reviews, in which the results of between 520 and 3391 participants from a total of 62 randomized controlled trials were analysed together.
IQWiG found that no conclusions on late complications could be drawn from the available data. The reason for this is that none of the studies had the primary goal of investigating the effects of a low-salt diet on cardiovascular disease or all-cause mortality.
However, the investigations consistently show that a reduction in salt intake can assist in lowering blood pressure: over a period of up to one year, there was a mean drop of 3.6 to 8 mmHg in systolic values and a mean drop of approximately 2 to 3 mmHg in diastolic values. This applied primarily to patients who did not take any additional anti-hypertensive drugs.
The sustainability of this effect, however, remains unclear.

Baby with two Heads born in Philippines
Labels: Baby, Philippines
The baby was born late Tuesday and is now under observation at the neo-natal intensive care unit of the Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital in Manila.
A hospital spokeswoman said the baby was stable at the moment, but said she may die if tests proved both heads shared only one set of vital organs.
"The rate of survival will depend on the shared organ. If they only have one heart, they will not survive," the unidentified spokeswoman told local radio.
Reports said the father Salvador Arganda was a tricycle driver. He and his wife, Chateria, already have five other children and there was no known history of twins in the family.
Officials at the hospital said the extra head appeared to be a twin of the girl who failed to fully separate during the development stage in early pregnancy.
"This is the first case of its kind here in the hospital," one Fabella doctor said, but said other hospitals in Manila have in the past recorded similar cases.
People have unprotected sex as they're shy to Buy condoms: study
One out of 10 men said in a recent survey they have had unprotected sex because they were too embarrassed to buy condoms from a pharmacy, reveals an online study.
This is the finding of an online pharmacy mastersdirect.com, revealing people's opinions about their most embarrassing health problems.
The results revealed that the high street pharmacy can be a 'humiliation hot-spot' for people confronting their embarrassing health issues. The most toe-curlingly embarrassing products were voted to be: condoms, incontinence pants and personal lubricants.
Besides, almost 50 percent of the population has suffered a health problem like thrush (candidiasis of the oral cavity; seen mostly in infants or debilitated adults) in silence rather than face the embarrassment of seeking medical attention.
A quarter has simply walked out of a pharmacy because they were too embarrassed to ask for a particular health product, said a release of mastersdirect.com.
Thrush creams, tampons and pregnancy tests also made people feel conspicuous. In an attempt to hide their embarrassment over their purchases, well over a third had even bought something they didn't need as a 'cover-up'.

21 Sleep Tips For Pregnant Women
Labels: Health, Pregnant Women
Sleep is important to health of all people, but during pregnancy it is of utmost importance. During a womens pregnancy, she needs to get plenty of extra rest. A growing fetus puts a lot of strain on a womens body and she needs to get more sleep to re-fuel and keep going.
Women are so tired because of the new hormones cycling through their bodies. Progesterone has a sleepy effect to it and makes women much more tired and want to sleep more or later. Each trimester has its own unique symptoms that can make sleep more difficult than when not pregnant.
1st Trimester
During the first trimester, a woman can go through a range of emotions from scared to ecstatic. Adding the new hormones in the loop, and she can go from happy to horrible in record time. Sleep challenges are very common due to the bodys reaction to all the hormones.
The rise in progesterone that sustains a pregnancy causes many women to feel tired continuously. The rise in HCG might also trigger the tired response too, which would explain why women tend to be more tired in the first trimester and feel much better in the second. Sore breasts and a blossoming bust line may also make getting comfortable difficult.
If you are a tummy sleeper, you might find your breasts are getting in the way or hurt when you lay on them. Constipation and the ever-expanding uterus also make for discomforting nights. Add in frequent bathroom breaks per day and it is surprising that any pregnant woman sleeps at all.
Progesterone is just a wonder hormone, not only does it makes you sleepy; it makes you have to urinate all the time by increasing your kidney function. Nausea, also called morning sickness, also makes sleep a challenge. This nausea can and does strike at all hours of the day and night, especially when lying down or is triggered by smell.
First Trimester Survival Tips
1) Get as much rest as possible and sleep in when you can. Getting extra rest will help you stay out of the sleep debt that can cause your symptoms to worsen.
2) Stay hydrated, but drink most of your liquids during the day and avoid them later in the evening so you can cut down on nighttime bathroom visits.
3) Combat nausea with crackers or small bland snacks. Eat often and in small amounts to prevent getting sick from an empty tummy. Keep crackers at your beside for when nausea hits you in bed or in the morning.
4) Sleep on your left side as much as you can. This is the best position for good circulation. Use extra pillows between your knees or under your belly to help keep you more comfortable.
5) Have a night light in the bathroom so you dont have to turn on the light and wake yourself fully.
6) Make sure you try to go to bed at the same time every night. This puts your body on a schedule.
7) Take naps. If you are tired then go sleep, you body is telling you to do something.
2nd Trimester
Many pregnant ladies are happy to hit that 2nd trimester mark. Not only does it mean there is a less risk of a miscarriage, but also the nausea, frequent urination, and sleepiness have pretty much gone away. Women usually feel their best and have a boost of energy during this time. They are starting to show, but arent too big for comfort.
There are plenty of maladies to plague sleep during this time. To make room for the enlarging uterus, the diaphragm is restricted and breathing becomes shallower. This causes the infamous heartburn. Many women only have to eat or drink anything and get it.
Many women notice their dreams become increasingly frightening as pregnancy develops. Many women have dreams that they left or lost the baby. Plus, dreams become extremely vivid.
Second Trimester Survival Tips
8) In order to avoid heartburn; try to avoid spicy, fatty, or fried foods
9) Sleep with your head and neck elevated to keep the stomach acid down
10) Eat frequent small meals throughout the day
11) Use antacids, they are effective and safe.
12) Enjoy your 2nd trimester and better sleep, but keep sleeping. Extra rest is still a good thing
13) When sleeping, lie on your side with your knees and hips bent. Place pillows between your knees, under your tummy and behind your back. This can help take pressure off your lower back.
14) To avoid nightmares try not to eat too much before bed and talk out any fears you might have with your partner or a therapist.
3rd Trimester
The third trimester is the most sleep challenged stage of pregnancy. With the frequency of urination, inability to get comfortable, extra weight, and preparing for the new baby, some women find themselves struggling to stay awake.
Rigorous fetal movements and fetal hiccups can also impede sleep. Aches and pains of many kinds can be expected at this time. The joints are loosening and preparing for birth, the body is carrying all the extra weight, and even walking can be tough.
Many women during pregnancy wake frequently during the night for no reason, which can cause her to be sleepy in the morning. Many women find that they have begun snoring. During the later stages of pregnancy, many women find that their nasal passages have swollen and have more nasal congestion. Many women complain of leg cramps during the 3rd trimester as well.
The muscles of the legs are carrying a lot of weight and tend to get stiff. Once relaxed at night they can tense up or spasm, causing great pain and keeping some women awake.
Third Trimester Survival Tips
15) Sleep on your left side. This allows for the best blood flow to the fetus, your uterus and kidneys. It also improves circulation of blood back to the heart.
16) Try using a body pillow to help you sleep better.
17) Avoid sodas and other carbonated drinks, they can cause leg cramps.
18) If youre getting a lot of swelling and begin snoring, call you doctor
19) If you develop Restless Legs Syndrome, talk to your doctor about an iron deficiency.
20) If you cant sleep get up and do something else. Read, watch T.V., listen to music, clean, you may get tired enough to want to go back to bed.
21) If you are getting leg cramps, straighten your leg and flex your foot upwards, this will help get the kink out. Do these several times before going to bed as a stretching routine to avoid the cramps all together.

A new survey has lead to the discovery of a massive cave in a remote Vietnamese jungle, which is the largest single cave passage yet found.
According to a report in National Geographic News, at 262-by-262 feet (80-by-80 meters) in most places, the Son Doong cave beats out the previous world-record holder, Deer Cave in the Malaysian section of the island of Borneo.
Deer Cave is no less than 300-by-300 feet (91-by-91 meters), but it’’s only about a mile (1.6 kilometers) long.
By contrast, explorers walked 2.8 miles (4.5 kilometers) into Son Doong, in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, before being blocked by seasonal floodwaters-and they think that the passage is even longer.
In addition, for a couple of miles, Son Doong reaches more than 460-by-460 feet (140-by-140 meters), according to Adam Spillane, a member of the British Cave Research Association expedition that explored the massive cavern.
Spillane was in the first of two groups to enter the cave. His team followed the passage as far as a 46-foot-high (14-meter-high) wall.
“The second team that went in got flooded out. We”re going back next year to climb that wall and explore the cave further,” he said.
A local farmer, who had found the entrance to the Son Doong cave several years ago, led the joint British-Vietnamese expedition team to the cavern in April.
The team found an underground river running through the first 1.6 miles (2.5 kilometers) of the limestone cavern, as well as giant stalagmites more than 230 feet (70 meters) high.
The explorers surveyed Son Doong’’s size using laser-based measuring devices.
Such modern technology allows caves to be measured to the nearest millimeter, according to Andy Eavis, president of the International Union of Speleology, the world caving authority, based in France.
“With these laser-measuring devices, the cave sizes are dead accurate,” he said. “It tends to make the caves smaller, because years ago we were estimating, and we tended to overestimate,” he added.
Eavis agreed that the new findings confirm Son Doong’’s record status-despite the fact that he had discovered Borneo’’s now demoted Deer Cave.
“This one in Vietnam is bigger,” he conceded.
A biologist will accompany the team on its return visit next year to survey the cave’’s subterranean wildlife.
Eavis added that there are almost certainly bigger cave passages awaiting discovery around the world.
“That’’s the fantastic thing about caving,” he said.
How to make ice melt at -180 Degree Celsius
A team of scientists has determined that ice can be melted at –180 degree Celsius if the ice crystals contain just 48 water molecules.
According to a report in New Scientist, Bernd von Issendorff at the University of Freiburg in Germany and his colleagues created ice clusters of just a few tens of water molecules, tagged with an extra electron.
The electron’s charge allowed the team to trap the clusters in electric fields and weed out those of the wrong size.
As the ice clusters were ten thousand times smaller than a grain of sand, the researchers couldn’t merely watch them melt.
Instead, at temperatures ranging from -265 degree C to -80 degree C, they triggered the evaporation of a few molecules with pulses of laser light.
By counting the number of molecules that evaporated, they could calculate the energy of each cluster before it was zapped.
Since liquids contain more energy than solids, they could deduce the temperature at which the clusters melted.
The researchers were surprised to find melting began at just under –180 degree C.
“Probably anybody would have guessed that a small amount of water behaves differently, but maybe not so many that it is so different,” said von Issendorff.
Von Issendorff and his colleagues expect their findings will fine-tune models that explain and predict cloud formation and climate, atmospheric chemistry, and the evolution of water-rich objects in outer space, such as fledgling comets.
Diabetes risk highest among poorest people
A charity in Britain has warned that people who are the poorest in the country may be more than twice likely to develop diabetes at any age, compared to the average person.
Diabetes UK further states that people with the condition, who live in the most deprived homes, are also twice as likely to develop complications.
The organisation enumerated obesity, lack of exercise, poor diet, and smoking among the factors to blame.
The charity points out in its study report that women living in homes with the lowest income in England are more than four times as likely to get diabetes as those who live in homes with the highest income.
It further says that diabetes in Wales is almost twice as high in the most deprived areas compared to the least deprived.
Considering al that, Diabetes UK Chief Executive Douglas Smallwood stressed the need for action to prevent a generation of people living in deprivation “ending up in an early grave”.
He said that health authorities needed to raise awareness among those at high risk.
“In addition, the NHS must ensure that appropriate, high quality care is available across the country and that everyone, regardless of their socioeconomic status, is accessing it,” the BBC quoted him as saying.
“Research has shown that people with diabetes in deprived or high ethnicity areas are less likely to have key health checks, putting them at increased risk of developing devastating complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, blindness and amputation.
“Finally, in these times of economic uncertainty when people are more likely to turn to cheaper, processed foods, food labelling must be clear and consistent to allow people to make informed choices about what they are eating,” he added.
Professor Alan Maryon-Davis, president of the UK Faculty of Public Health, was not surprised at the figures because he felt that the risk factors for diabetes were very closely associated with deprivation and hard to tackle.
“We do need to target efforts at the most vulnerable,” he said.
He further said that the national vascular screening programme, which started in April and was still gearing up, would help diagnose people and help them manage the illness.
Love not enough for Marriage!
Love has no major role to play in keeping couples together. In fact, the chances of a couple staying together are affected by age, previous relationships – and smoking.
That’s the conclusion of a new study, which was conducted by researchers at the Australian National University.
To reach the conclusion, boffins spent six years monitoring 2,500 couples who were married or living together, reports The Daily Express.
The study found that money played a major factor in deciding whether a couple stand the test of time. The study, entitled What's Love Got to Do With It, showed that a quarter of partnerships and marriages will end within six years and half will be over within 25 years.
It also found that a husband who is nine or more years older than his wife is twice as likely to get divorced, as are husbands who get married before they turn 25.
Couples were twice as likely to split if the wife had a much stronger preference for children or for more of them. Smoking and drinking rates also contributed to relationship breakdown, the study found.

Red wine ‘boosts sexual desire in Women’
Labels: Red wine, sexual desire, Women’
Move over sex toys and tantric art, a glass or two of red wine aremore than enough to increase a woman’’s libido, say researchers.
As for the reason: Italian doctors, who carried out the study, claim that chemical compounds found in red wine may boost sexual functioning by increasing blood flow to key areas of the body, The Telegraph reported.
To reach the conclusion, doctors at the university of Florence recruited 800 women aged 18 to 50. None of the women had ever reported a sexual health problem.
The volunteers were split into three groups – those who regularly consumed one or two glasses of red wine a day, those who consumed less than one glass a day of any sort of wine or other alcohol, and those who were teetotal.
In order to avoid the possible confounding effects of drunkenness, females who drank more than two glasses a day were excluded from the study.
The participants finished a questionnaire, the Female Sexual Function Index. It included 19 questions with a total score range between two and 36, with higher scores meaning better functioning.
Overall the red wine drinkers scored an average of 27.3 points, compared to 25.9 for the less-frequent tipplers and 24.4 for the non-drinkers.
From analysis, it was found that levels of sexual desire were higher in women who were moderate drinkers of red wine than in their counterparts who preferred other alcoholic drinks, or were teetotal.
The researchers said: “While this finding needs to be interpreted with some caution, it nevertheless suggests a potential relationship between red wine consumption and better sexuality.”

Marking a quantum leap in India's shipbuilding capabilities, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday launched the country's first indigenously designed and built nuclear-powered attack submarine in Visakhapatnam.http://www.hindustantimes.com/news/images/akla4_300px.j
July 26 is annually commemorated as Kargil Victory Day to mark the Indian Army's success against Pakistani intruders who had occupied the area in Jammu and Kashmir in 1999.
The submarine will be commissioned in the Indian Navy as INS Arihant, which translates as "destroyer of enemies", after extensive outfitting and sea trial. It is the first of three such vessels to be built in the country. Hitherto, submarines have been built here under licence from their foreign designers.
Earlier this year, Antony had lifted the cloak from India's secret submarine project, saying: "Things (the project) are in http://www.hindustantimes.com/news/images/victor3_400px.jpgthe final stage. Some years back, there were some bottlenecks in terms of supply of parts. It is over now. We will announce it (the vessel's launch) whenever it is ready."
The construction of the advanced technology vessel (ATV), as the project is designated, is in line with India's nuclear doctrine enunciated in 1999 that calls for its nuclear forces to be effective, enduring, diverse, flexible, and responsive to the requirements in accordance with the concept of credible minimum deterrence. The doctrine calls for high survivability against surprise attacks and for rapid punitive response.
A nuclear submarine, which can remain submerged for prolonged periods of time and is virtually undetectable underwater, therefore, meets all these criteria and offers an invaluable launch platform for nuclear weapons, the doctrine says.
It is the world's most powerful deterrent force -- a stealthy undersea platform with enormous nuclear firepower. For a country like India with a no-first use policy, it is vital because it prevents a potential adversary from launching a crippling first-strike to knock out all nuclear weapons, the doctrine says.
The Indian Navy will also get a Russian-built Akula class nuclear submarine, to be commissioned as INS Chakra, by the year-end. Currently undergoing sea-trials, the delivery date for the Russian submarine was pushed back following an accident on board. The navy will use the submarine to train its crew in handling nuclear-powered vessels.
Prisoner allowed to have Sex with girlfriend
Police officers in Australia have now taken to solving crime by offering their prisoners favours like sex with their girlfriends in exchange for confessions.
According to evidence given by a prisoner to the Crime and Misconduct Commission, the police picked him up from jail and took him for a drive through the suburbs on Brisbane’s southside, reports the ‘Courier Mail’.
He was handed a list of unsolved break-and-enters, perhaps as many as 300, and he was told that he needed to admit to at least 20 to make his reward worthwhile.
The police then collected the prisoner’s girlfriend, and delivered her to Morningside police station, where they had sex and where the prisoner injected himself with drugs his girlfriend brought.
The prisoner, called RI in the scathing report into police released this week, was not the only person allowed to come and go from their jail cell.

If 'N Sync singer Lance Bass almost became a space tourist, why can't you? Piers Bizony, a pop-science vet who's written about Mars and the tyrannical 1960s NASA administrator James E. Webb, draws a user-friendly map of the shifting terrain of post-Apollo, post-Challenger space travel in "How to Build Your Own Spaceship."
The first chapter of private space travel is already being written, wherein entrepreneurs will launch themselves and others into space. The pioneers are mostly uber-rich, such as Amazon founder Jeff Bezos (who's building a reusable spaceship) and Budget America hotel magnate Robert Bigelow (who has successfully tested an unmanned, orbiting suite). Bizony believes that you, the uninitiated reader, can "come up with a business scheme that can actually make space profitable," and he takes you deep into what's needed. But his lesson plan soon collapses under the weight of discussions of SSTO spacecraft, LOX vs. hypergolic fuels and, well, rocket science. Even though the unwashed masses with bank accounts under nine figures may not become aeronautical big boys in the way Bizony envisions, they can at least read about the final frontier in a book that sparkles with unquenchable enthusiasm.

A daily dose baking soda or sodium bicarbonate, used in baking, cleaning, acid indigestion, sunburn and more slows the decline of kidney function in some patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD), a new study has found.
"This cheap and simple strategy also improves patients' nutritional status, and has the potential of translating into significant economic, quality of life, and clinical outcome benefits," comments Magdi Yaqoob, of the Royal London Hospital (RLH), who led the study.
Researchers studied 134 patients with advanced CKD and low bicarbonate levels, also called metabolic acidosis. One group received a small daily dose of sodium bicarbonate in tablet form, in addition to their usual care.
For this group, the rate of decline in kidney function was greatly reduced -- about two-thirds slower than in patients. "In fact, in patients taking sodium bicarbonate, the rate of decline in kidney function was similar to the normal age-related decline," says Yaqoob.
Rapid progression of kidney disease occurred in just nine percent of patients taking sodium bicarbonate, compared to 45 percent of the other group. Patients taking sodium bicarbonate were also less likely to develop end-stage renal disease (ESRD) requiring dialysis.
Patients taking sodium bicarbonate also had improvement in several measures of nutrition. Although their sodium levels went up, this didn't lead to any problems with increased blood pressure.
Low bicarbonate levels are common in patients with CKD and can lead to a wide range of other problems. "This is the first randomised controlled study of its kind," says Yaqoob.
"A simple remedy like sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), when used appropriately, can be very effective," he adds, according to an RLH release.

complained of a lack of sexual desire from the time she got married. On the few occasions that she had sex, she could never reach an orgasm. Her husband threatened her that he would look for sexual pleasure elsewhere if things between them didn’t improve.
His exact words were: “I don’t want to waste my golden years. I’ve tried all forms of lovemaking with her. I’ve even asked her to take some tonics that are said to improve the libido. We’ve watched porn films together. But nothing seems to work.”
After a long conversation with her to understand her constitution, Argentum Nitricum was recommended to her, which helped to awaken her sexual desire and helped her to reach an orgasm. In a couple of months she became so sexually active that her husband commented, “How much do you want?”
Wonder pills
Homoeopathy adopts a holistic approach and treats a person as a complete individual, not just his or her sexual problem. It is a myth that homeopathy works slowly. On the contrary, it can work wonders in a short period.
Take the example of Sunita (name changed), 24, who had a love marriage. She was the timid sort of a woman and would panic every time her husband tried to have sex, even though they indulged in foreplay. She would scream and push him away every time he tried to have penetrative sex. She had developed a phobia that sex was painful and she would bleed a lot. I started with a bit of sex education to rid her of anxiety and her misconceptions about sex. But this did not allay her deep-rooted anxiety about sex. After a long conversation with her, she was prescribed Phosphorus tablets. Soon, she was relieved of her fear and started enjoying marital bliss.
Holistic treatment
A person’s psyche and sexuality are inherently interconnected. Homeopathy takes into account the emotional state and treats it, too. An imbalanced personality, a mental disturbance and dissatisfaction in relationships are some of the reasons that are attributed to sexual dysfunction.
Failure of homeopathic treatment reflects the inability of the homeopath to effectively implement its science. Homeopathy combined with yoga, spiritual orientation, counselling and sex education can banish problems in a person’s sex life.

When it comes to sexual satisfaction, kissing may be the perfect way to begin with.
Kissing is rated as one of the most romantic acts a couple can engage in, reports Fox News.
Two people can exchange a great deal of information when their lips meet; it’s a major mate assessment tool, often making or breaking how far things will go in a sexual situation.
Here’s what a kiss can do:
1. Promote sexual access - Males in particular use it as a way to seduce romantic partners.
2. Induce bonding - Making out is a sign of commitment, especially in the unconscious willingness to risk contracting illness or death.
3. Show your genuine desire and love for another.
4. Invite reconciliation, helping lovers to reunite after a fight.
5. Trigger sexual desire with the exchange of testosterone.
6. Spike dopamine in the brain, which is associated with romantic love.
7. Cause sexual excitement, which may increase levels of oxytocin in both men and women.
World's first giant Panda born from frozen sperm: Report
The first giant panda conceived through artificial insemination with frozen sperm was born in China's Sichuan province, a breakthrough for breeding the endangered species, researchers said on Friday.
Eleven-year-old You You gave birth yesterday to a baby giant panda that appeared healthy at the Ya'an base, said Huang Yan, a researcher with the 'China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center' of the Wolong nature reserve.
The researcher claimed that it was the first artificial fertilization using frozen panda sperm at southwest Sichuan province. "It can avoid inbreeding of giant pandas and increase the diversity of the species," he was quoted as saying by the state-run Xinhua news agency. It is You You's third baby, and the 10th panda cub born at Wolong this year.
Artificial insemination is commonly used for breeding pandas, which have a very low sex drive. Huang said with the technology, "we can keep the sperm frozen for decades". "The freezing and thawing causes no harm or change to the genetic structure of the sperm, so the technology has no influence on the baby," he underlined.
The pandas were moved from Wolong to the Bifengxia breeding base in Ya'an City after the earthquake in May 12 last year. A total of 88 pandas are living in Ya'an while another 56 are outside Sichuan Province. A new breeding center is being built to replace the former quake-damaged habitat.
In 2006, 34 pandas were born through artificial insemination in China and 30 survived - both record numbers for the endangered species. However, using panda sperm that has been frozen earlier - instead of from an immediate donor - had not been successful before.

Artificial brain '10 Years away
Labels: Artificial brain, Health, human body
A detailed, functional artificial human brain can be built within the next 10 years, a leading scientist has claimed.
Henry Markram, director of the Blue Brain Project, has already simulated elements of a rat brain.
He told the TED Global conference in Oxford that a synthetic human brain would be of particular use finding treatments for mental illnesses.
Around two billion people are thought to suffer some kind of brain impairment, he said.
"It is not impossible to build a human brain and we can do it in 10 years," he said.
"And if we do succeed, we will send a hologram to TED to talk."
'Shared fabric'
The Blue Brain project was launched in 2005 and aims to reverse engineer the mammalian brain from laboratory data.
In particular, his team has focused on the neocortical column - repetitive units of the mammalian brain known as the neocortex.
Neurons
The team are trying to reverse engineer the brain
"It's a new brain," he explained. "The mammals needed it because they had to cope with parenthood, social interactions complex cognitive functions.
"It was so successful an evolution from mouse to man it expanded about a thousand fold in terms of the numbers of units to produce this almost frightening organ."
And that evolution continues, he said. "It is evolving at an enormous speed."
Over the last 15 years, Professor Markram and his team have picked apart the structure of the neocortical column.
"It's a bit like going and cataloguing a bit of the rainforest - how may trees does it have, what shape are the trees, how many of each type of tree do we have, what is the position of the trees," he said.
"But it is a bit more than cataloguing because you have to describe and discover all the rules of communication, the rules of connectivity."
The project now has a software model of "tens of thousands" of neurons - each one of which is different - which has allowed them to digitally construct an artificial neocortical column.
Although each neuron is unique, the team has found the patterns of circuitry in different brains have common patterns.
"Even though your brain may be smaller, bigger, may have different morphologies of neurons - we do actually share the same fabric," he said.
"And we think this is species specific, which could explain why we can't communicate across species."
World view
To make the model come alive, the team feeds the models and a few algorithms into a supercomputer.
"You need one laptop to do all the calculations for one neuron," he said. "So you need ten thousand laptops."
Computer-generated image of a human brain
The research could give insights into brain disease
Instead, he uses an IBM Blue Gene machine with 10,000 processors.
Simulations have started to give the researchers clues about how the brain works.
For example, they can show the brain a picture - say, of a flower - and follow the electrical activity in the machine.
"You excite the system and it actually creates its own representation," he said.
Ultimately, the aim would be to extract that representation and project it so that researchers could see directly how a brain perceives the world.
But as well as advancing neuroscience and philosophy, the Blue Brain project has other practical applications.
For example, by pooling all the world's neuroscience data on animals - to create a "Noah's Ark", researchers may be able to build animal models.
"We cannot keep on doing animal experiments forever," said Professor Markram.
It may also give researchers new insights into diseases of the brain.
"There are two billion people on the planet affected by mental disorder," he told the audience.
The project may give insights into new treatments, he said.
The TED Global conference runs from 21 to 24 July in Oxford, UK.

Sachin Pays tribute to Mentor Achrekar
Labels: Cricket, India, Ramakant Achrekar, Sachin
Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar on Saturday paid rich tributes to his mentor cricket coach Ramakant Achrekar and said he could attain such heights because of the 'sir'.
Tendulkar, Vinod Kambli, Praveen Amre and Sameer Dighe along with Achrekar were felicitated at a function here as 'Guru-Shishya' (mentor and his protege) by a local arts and cultural academy, was presided by BCCI President Shashank Manohar.
Tendulkar recalled an incident when his coach told him to play for 'B' team of his School. Instead of batting, he preferred sitting in the gallery and cheering his schoolmates.
In the evening, when he came across Achrekar, he was asked how many runs he had scored. Taken aback, Tendulkar told him that he was clapping and cheering up. Then came a slap which shattered his myth. His lunch box fell on the ground and he realised what mistake he had commited, he said.
Afridi's T20 WC Jersey to be displayed at Lord's Museum
Flamboyant Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi's World Twenty20 jersey will soon find a rack at the historic Lord's Museum in London as MCC has requested the cricketer to donate his shirt for display.
Afridi was instrumental in Pakistan's World T20 victory in England as he was adjudged Man-of-the-Match in both the semi-final and final of the showpiece tournament last month.
"The MCC recently contacted me and requested to send the shirt to them which I will do shortly. But it is a big honour for me and my country to have the shirt displayed at such an historic museum," Afridi said.
The Lord's Museum displays kits of some of the greatest names in world cricket including legendary Australian Donald Bradman, Victor Trumper, Shane Warne, Jack Hobbs.
The museum, established in 1883, also houses the famed 'Ashes' urn that set off one of the most famous cricket battles between England and Australia.
In the past only few Pakistan cricketers have had the honour of putting of their playing kits on display at the museum which is visited every year by thousands of cricket fans.
Jahangir Khan, father of former Pakistan captain Majid, had killed a sparrow while bowling at the ground in 1936. That ball is still displayed at the museum.
Moon Footprints on Earth
One night, 40 years ago, a 12-year-old boy in Peru watched on a black and white television screen grainy, yet riveting, images of a man planting the first human footprints on another world.
Minutes after he had watched the images of Neil Armstrong walk on the moon, Pedro Medelius, a native of Lima, told his parents that when he grew up, he would like to be a scientist at Nasa.
Medelius today recalled the incident and his parents’ words — “well, you’ll have to work very hard to get there”. “They did not appear convinced, but they were supportive,” he said in an interview to The Telegraph.
He studied electrical engineering in Peru and in the University of Florida, and joined the Nasa Kennedy Space Centre at Cape Canaveral in 1991 where he joined a team of engineers working on the electronics of the Space Shuttle.
On Monday, the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing, Medelius will be at work, but expects a ceremony. There will also be a celebration at home — his daughter, Marie, who was born on the 25th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing — turns 15 this Monday.
The Apollo missions have thrown up myriad technology spinoffs — from ready-to-eat, freeze-dried foods to athletic shoes, from water purification systems to special insulating materials used in homes and industries.
But in addition to spawning such tangible, quantifiable technology offshoots, the first human stroll on the moon also appears to have inspired a generation of youngsters to pursue careers in science and engineering.
“The excitement that human space flight generates is as important as technology spinoffs,” Medelius, who has received a prestigious Nasa Silver Snoopy Award for service to the Space Shuttle astronauts, said over phone.
“Kids need to get excited about science — in the long run, this benefits all of society,” said Medelius who was commended in October 1996 for “highly imaginative engineering” that helped improve space shuttle safety and reduced operating costs.
An online survey of about 800 scientists worldwide who have published research papers in the journal Nature over the past three years has revealed that half of them had been drawn to science by the Apollo missions.
High school students who watched the Apollo missions veered not just towards astronomy or planetary sciences but even towards life sciences and — like Medelius in Peru — engineering.
“I am sure (the landing) played an important role in driving me into electronic space business that I manage today at Texas Instruments,” said semiconductor expert James Salzmann, inscribing his thoughts on a special webpage containing recollections of the Apollo 11 landing created by Space Foundation, a US-based, non-profit organisation.
The Nature survey results published on Friday show that 90 per cent of the scientists believe human spaceflight has prompted technological innovations.
The Apollo missions have produced spinoffs that have made their way into everyday life -- lightweight water purifiers based on silver ions, and a super-durable athletic shoe where the foam was dumped in favour of a fatigue-resistant mechanical system.
The challenge of packing enough nutritious food into the cramped living quarters of the Apollo spacecraft spurred the development of freeze-dried foods that preserve the nutritional value and taste but are lightweight and have a long shelf life.
Two Indian laboratories -- the Central Food and Technology Research Institute and the Defence Food Research Laboratory -- independently developed this technology during the 1980s for subcontinental dishes -- dal to biryanis to chicken chettinad.

World's oldest Man dies
Labels: Henry Allingham, World's oldest Man
World's oldest man and one of the last surviving World War I veteran, Henry Allingham, died today at the age of 113.
He died this morning at the St Dunstan's care home, in Ovingdean near Brighton, where he spent his last years.
Born in 1896 to an ironmonger in north-east London, Allingham was the last surviving original member of the Royal Air Force, which was formed in 1918, a newspaper reported.
A mechanic in the Royal Naval Air Service, he also took part in the naval Battle of Jutland in 1916.
Allingham was 14 when the war broke out. He spent the war's first months refitting trucks for military use as his mother asked him not to join the military. But a year after his mother's death he decided to sign up.
Allingham, whose life life spanned three centuries and six monarchs, spent his final years reminding Britain about the 9 million soldiers killed during the conflict.
He had become the world's oldest man on June 17 when the previous holder, Tomoji Tanabe of Japan, died aged 113.
Allingham had marked his 113th birthday on June 6. He had two explanations for his longevity. The first was "cigarettes, whisky and wild women".
According to him, the second was, "How have I lived so long? I never worried. In the 20s there were millions of men out of work. You couldn't get a job anywhere. I wasn't worried. I'm not worried now."
The world's oldest man is now a 112-year-old American, Walter Breuning, who was born on September 21, 1896.
Shewta Tiwari's Bra and Chaddis Spice up National TV
Itni itni Bra aur itni itni Chaddiyan. BRA AUR CHADDIYAN pehenke dance karaa hai issney, ” Screams Palak on National television, apparently Palak is giving this gyan on our favorite desh ki bahu Shewta Tiwari.
This totally unwarranted attack on Shewta came from fellow contestant Palak of the MTV Roadies fame on the reality show, Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachcao.
Totally unplugged from civilization and in the midst of Malaysian jungles the contestants resort to backbiting. Palak, it seems has taken a strong dislike to Shewta Tiwari and pulled out dirty ‘DATA’ on Shewta Tiwari on National TV.
Palak who was earlier reported to be upset on not being able to wear revealing clothes took a dig at ‘Desh ki Bahu’ Shweta Tiwari. Palak was caught gossiping with fellow contestant Fiza, that Shweta Tiwari who is doing ‘nakhras’ in wearing revealing clothes is actually a hypocrite as Shweta has worn much lesser in her Bhojpuri Films. To quote Palak directly
“Abhi desh ki bahu ban rahi hai yahan par. Kyonki log Bhojpuri movies is not on a National level
Bhojpuri movies mein kya ussne kapdey pehne hain Girr jayegi dekhke. Itni itni Bra aur itni itni Chaddiyan. BRA AUR CHADDIYAN pehenke dance karaa hai issney. Poora DATA nikal jaayegaa”
(She is pretending to act like a shy bride; behaving all classy and sober here. Cause people don’t watch Bhojpuri films; those films don’t have a national audience. Oh What clothes she is wearing there You will fall down in shock.
She is wearing these itsy-bitsy bras and panties. BRA AND PANTIES and dancing in them. Her whole DATA will be exposed)
Looks like Palak is still suffering MTV Roadies hangover, as she leaves no stone unturned to bring down her opponent by pulling out the dirtiest trick in the book. Our homegrown trash TV princess Palak is giving the original trash talker Rakhi Sawant a run for her money.
Good for you girl looks like before packing up for Malaysia somebody did their homework on dirt digging thoroughly.

Women are 27 times More likely to be attracted to own sex
While women won't mind kissing other ladies for the sake of curiosity or fun, men would think a thousand number of times before even considering the offer to smooch another guy. Now, a researcher has tried to find the reason behind it.There's no question female sexuality is much more malleable. The evidence for why is not nearly as clear cut," The Globe and Mail quoted Roy Baumeister, a professor of psychology at Florida State University, as saying.
"Men are more either/or when it comes to their attractions to men or women. Women seem to have more shades of grey in their attractions," said Richard Lippa, a professor of psychology at California State University.
A survey of 3,600 people conducted by Lippa in 2006, found that heterosexual women are 27 times more likely than heterosexual men to express attraction to their own sex.
And some researchers have said that such a difference is more of a cultural influence than anything else.
"We sort of set it up that the definition of masculinity is to not be gay. That is not true of femininity at all," said Lisa Diamond, an associate professor of psychology and gender studies at the University of Utah.
Thus, in her opinion, "there's a lot more cultural permission for women to experiment with other women, to talk about it, to joke about having a girl crush and stuff like that."
Sex researchers agree that some men do experiment, although much less frequently than women.
However, Baumeister said: "This is not because of culture, it's biology. It looks pretty hard-wired."
In a survey of sexuality studies in 2000, Baumeister had found that social and cultural factors such as education and religion play a much stronger role in influencing a woman's sexuality compared with a man's.
The relatively lower role of cultural influence on men's sexuality is reason to believe their sexual behaviour is rooted in biology, he said.
Living in a homophobic society may prevent boys from experimenting or, at the very least, talking publicly about experimenting.
Still, some researchers have said that differences between men and women can't all be culture.
In a secondary study conducted in 2007, Lippa found that results of his 2006 study were replicated in many countries around the world, including Australia, Japan, India, Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore.
He said that the consistency of the study's findings argues for a biological difference, not a cultural one.
"Maybe in some sense women are more intrinsically bisexual. People are beginning to more and more acknowledge - and by people I mean researchers and people who study these things - that there are some real gender differences," he said.

When the world sees what caused Neil Armstrong to commit a grammatical gaffe when he uttered those now-famous words after helping mankind take a giant leap with his moonwalk, an Indian company will claim credit for making man’s first steps, and a stumble, discernible.
A subsidiary of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group has digitally enhanced the dark and fuzzy TV images of Armstrong and fellow astronaut Buzz Aldrin toddling on the moon 40 years ago.
The result has revealed the gaffe more clearly: Armstrong’s famous “one small step” was actually a stumble. In the nervous moment when the astronaut became the first to set foot on the moon, he forgot to say “a” before “man”.
Lowry Digital, a Hollywood-based subsidiary of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group company Adlabs Films, has done the enhancement work. Lowry has completed the initial phase of the restoration of the 150-minute footage beamed to the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa) from Apollo 11, which includes 15 sequences.
The enhanced footage now shows the clear outline of Armstrong’s spacesuit and helmet, a sharp improvement over the murky blob of the original. Aldrin, who followed Armstrong down, is seen making a two-footed jump off the module.
“We are honoured to have been selected by Nasa to handle the restoration of this historic footage,” said Adlabs Films chief executive Anil Arjun.
Nasa got together all the initial nine astronauts shortlisted for the moon project and released parts of the restored film in Washington yesterday.

Hookah joint 400% More toxic than Deonar dump'
Labels: Health, Hookah, smoking
Anti-smoking NGO survey paints a grim picture of pollution levels in city parlours, restaurants, pubs and country liquor bars
Take a deep breath, the next time you pass the Deonar dump a deeper one than you might do as you sip coffee at your favourite hookah palour.
Reason? The BMC's biggest dump is only one-fourth as toxic. This is what a recent survey conducted by anti-smoking NGO Healis Sekhsaria claims, as it compares the air quality at two of the city's dumps against country liquor bars and hookah parlours surveyed across the city.
According to measurements made by the NGO from March 19 to April 30 this year, the particulate matter levels per cubic metre (pm2.5 µg/m3) were nearly 400 per cent higher in hookah parlours compared to the Deonar dump.
Killer air
Director of Healis, Dr P C Gupta, said, "Many country liquor bars and hookah parlours we surveyed flout the smoking ban.
Often, the air within a smoking area eventually enters the non-smoking area, as the rooms are insufficiently ventilated," said Gupta.
Armed with personal aerosol monitors, members of the NGO spent at least one hour at restaurants, pubs, country liquor bars and hookah parlours across the city.
At the hookah parlours, the particulate levels were as high as 707.04 pm µg/m3, while at country liquor bars, the levels were at 326.56 µg/m3.
This is in stark comparison to the dumping grounds at Sudha Park in Ghatkopar and Shivaji Nagar at Deonar where levels of particulate stood at 148.5 pm µg/m3 and 169.5 pm µg/m3 respectively.
Exaggerated claims?
Hookah palour owners however feel that the NGO is stretching the facts.
"I have four exhausts in both my hookah parlours and 40 per cent of my electricity bill is spent on keeping the exhausts running. Our parlours are air-conditioned.
So, there's enough fresh air being pumped in and stale air being sucked out. This report is highly exaggerated," said restaurateur Rahul Kanal, who owns hookah parlours in Bandra and Andheri.
Statistics
Particulate matter levels
Sudha Park, Ghatkopar: 148.5
Shivaji Nagar, Deonar: 169.5
