Lingerie gets men’s pulses racing

Women’s lingerie gets male shoppers’ pulses racing, a new study has revealed.

But, when it comes to women, it’s the sight of sparkly evening dresses or a glamorous pair of shoes that do the trick.

The study, which was conducted by Debenhams in a bid to establish in which department customers get the most enthusiastic, used monitor devices to track the heart rates of 1,000 shoppers, reports The Daily Express.

And the study of customers aged 20 to 40 revealed stark differences between what gets the pulses racing for the two sexes.

Lingerie topped the list of goods that boosted men’s heart rates, followed by high-tech TVs and sound systems.

Debenhams spokesman Ed Watson said: “It seems men enjoy buying something special for their loved ones.”

Said Watson: “Women appear to embark upon an emotional roller-coaster when they step into a shop, with heart rate peaks throughout the experience. The shopping climax comes late for men – it’s all about closing the deal at the till.”

Women more happier with life than men

. Wednesday, December 9, 2009

Women get more pleasure out of life than men - but only by 15 minutes a day, says a new study.

Social Policy Research Centre fellow Dr Roger Patulny, from the University of New South Wales: "If you add up all the times together - the good times and the bad times - men have about 10 minutes less time that they enjoy than women in a day and six minutes more time that they dislike."

"Women tend to enjoy the things that they do with their time more than men do," Patulny said.

In the study, the expert found that the biggest negative for women was housework: 90 minutes of it every day, reports The Daily Telegraph.

As for males, they did about 50 minutes of unenjoyable chores.

They also endured more "bad" time in paid work and commuting, the research added.

"Women seem happier," Patulny said. "They are happier if you ask them how satisfied they are with life but they also have more happy time."

He believes that the difference may be that males tend to be more socially disconnected because they spend less time with families and friends and are more likely to see themselves as lonely.

Look at woman’s feet to know if she likes you

. Thursday, December 3, 2009

Searching for the twinkle in her eye to tell if she is head over heels in love with you? Well, it’s time you turn your attention towards her feet, suggests a new study.

The research says the way to tell if a woman likes a man is to look at her feet.

It is believed that our feet gestures are the most powerful form of body language because we are less conscious of what we are doing with them.

As for how to know if a woman has a thing for you: if the female moves her feet away from her body while giggling, to adopt a more open-legged stance, then she is attracted to you. But if her legs are crossed or tucked under her body, then you should forget about her.

Bad news for women: the rules do not apply to men, reports The Telegraph.

Professor Geoff Beattie, one of Britain’s leading psychologists, made the findings after examining how people move their feet in response to different situations.

Prof Beattie, who is Dean of psychological sciences at the University of Manchester, said: “Whilst people might know what their facial expression or hands might be imparting, they will often have no idea whether their feet are moving or the messages their feet are sending out.

“People can mask smiles, or mask what they are doing with their eyes, but feet are actually a bit easier to read because people don't know what they are doing with them.

"The secret language of feet can reveal a great deal about our personality, what we think of the person we're talking to and even our emotional and psychological state, they are a fascinating channel of non-verbal communication.”

He added: “If you are meeting someone for the first time, laughter is not necessarily a good thing – people can be laughing at you, or with you.

"If a woman's feet move when she laughs, it is one of the most powerful signals that she likes you.

"If they are crossing the feet, or crossing the legs – not good.”

The research compiled on behalf of shoemakers Jeffery West also claimed that if a man is nervous, he will show his feelings by increasing his foot movement. Women however, do the opposite, and keep their feet still.

Eating fruits can make you look sexy!

Eating vegetables and fruits can make you look attractive, says a new study, which showed that a healthy diet is crucial to achieving the most desirable complexion.

In the study, researchers from the universities of Bristol and St. Andrews in the UK found that the colour of a person''s skin affects how healthy and therefore attractive they appear.

Using specialist computer software, a total of 54 Caucasian participants of both sexes were asked to manipulate the skin colour of male and female Caucasian faces to make them look as healthy as possible. They chose to increase the rosiness, yellowness and brightness of the skin.

"We knew from our previous work that people who have more blood and more oxygen colour in their skins looked healthy, and so we decided to see what other colours affect health perceptions. This has given us some clues as to what other skin pigments may relate to a healthy appearance," said Dr. Ian Stephen who is now at the University of Bristol.

Skin that is slightly flushed with blood and full of oxygen suggests a strong heart and lungs; supporting the study''s findings that rosier skin appeared healthy.

Smokers and people with diabetes or heart disease have fewer blood vessels in their skin, and so skin would appear less rosy.

The preference for more golden or ''yellow-toned'' skin as healthier might be explained by the ''carotenoid pigments'' that we get from the fruit and vegetables in our diet.

These plant pigments are powerful antioxidants that soak up dangerous compounds produced when the body combats disease. They are also important for our immune and reproductive systems and may help prevent cancer.

They are the same dietary pigments that brightly coloured birds and fish use to show off their healthiness and attract mates, and the researchers think that similar biological mechanisms may be at work in humans.

"In the West we often think that sun tanning is the best way to improve the colour of your skin but our research suggests that living a healthy lifestyle with a good diet might actually be better," Stephen said.

Melanin, the pigment that causes the tan colon when skin is exposed to the sun makes the skin darker and more yellow, but participants in the study chose to make skin lighter and more yellow to make it look healthier.

Professor David Perrett, head of the Perception Lab at the University of St. Andrews, where the research took place," said: "What we eat and not just how much we eat appears to be important for a healthy appearance. The only natural way in which we can make our skin lighter and more yellow is to eat a more healthy diet high in fruit and vegetables."

The study has been published in the December issue of Springer''s International Journal of Primatology.

Flash 40 pc of your skin to allure men!

. Thursday, November 19, 2009

Women should wear clothes that bare 40 per cent of their bodies in a bid to allure men, say experts.

Keeping the right balance between revealing too much and being too conservative has long been a dilemma for women while choosing the right clothes.

A research team from University of Leeds observed women at one of the city's biggest nightclubs from a balcony above the dance floor.

Using tape recorders hidden in their handbags, they took note of what female clubbers wore. Each arm accounted for 10 per cent of the body, each leg for 15 per cent and the torso for 50 per cent.

They also calculated how many times these women were approached by men asking them to dance.

The study found that women who showed off around 40 per cent of their skin attracted twice as many men as those who covered up.

In contrast, too much skin show turned men off as it suggests they might be unfaithful.

"Any more than 40 per cent and the signal changes from 'allure' to one indicating general availability and future infidelity," the Telegraph quoted lead researcher and psychologist Dr Colin Hendrie, as telling the Daily Mail.

"Show some leg, show some arm, but not any more than that," Hendrie added.

The most popular women combined the 40 per cent rule with tight clothing and provocative dancing. The 15 per cent that combined all three criteria were approached by 40 men each.

The study appears in journal Behaviour.

Flash 40 pc of flesh to woo a man: Study

. Tuesday, November 17, 2009

Can't make out how much to bare on a night out? Well, ladies, flash just 40 percent of your flesh to woo Mr Right, says a new study.

Researchers at Leeds University have carried out the study and found that women should wear an outfit which reveals 40 percent of her skin -- this provides just the right amount of attention.

For their study, the researchers sent four female colleagues to one of the city's biggest nightclubs. There, they stood on a balcony overlooking the dancefloor, and noted what the female clubbers were wearing and how many times they were approached by men.

All their observations were taped on dictaphones hidden in handbags. Seventy hours of recordings revealed that a man was much more likely to ask a woman to dance than vice versa, the 'Daily Mail' reported.

Specifically, women who showed off around 40 percent of their skin were approached by twice as many men as those who were more covered up, the study revealed.

"Any more than 40 per cent and the signal changes from 'allure' to one indicating general availability and future infidelity. Show some leg, show some arm, but not any more than that," lead researcher Colin Hendrie said.

However, some suitors fared better than others. Hendrie said: "The male couldn't be too thin and he couldn't be too fat. Most particularly, he couldn't be too tall and he couldn't be too short. He must be more than a head taller than the female and certainly not shorter than her."

At least some of the men passed the height test, with the researchers noting that 30 per cent of people leaving did so as part of a couple, compared with 20 per cent of those arriving.

The study has been published in the 'Behaviour' journal.

Are you an authoritative parent?

Trying to have too much control over your children’s lives may not be a good idea, for they tend to take it negatively, says a new study.

The study, conducted in the United States by researchers at Orebro University in Sweden, looked at how adolescents view and react to parental control.

Parental control falls into two categories: behavioural control (when parents help their children regulate themselves and feel competent by providing supervision, setting limits, and establishing rules) and psychological control (when parents are manipulative in their behaviour, often resulting in feelings of guilt, rejection, or not being loved). It's thought that behavioural control is better for youngsters' development. However, when parents are very controlling, young people no longer make this distinction and view both types of parental control negatively.

The study, which asked 67 American children (7th and 8th graders, as well as 10th and 11th graders) to respond to hypothetical scenarios involving both kinds of control, found that the youths put a negative spin on both types of control when the parents in the scenarios exercised a lot of control.

Specifically, when parents showed moderate levels of control, they saw psychological control more negatively than behavioural control, but when parents were very controlling, they viewed both types of control negatively. Specifically, the youths interpreted high levels of control as intrusive and as indicating that they mattered less as individuals.

Intrusiveness is a hallmark of psychological control, according to the researchers, and both high levels of psychological control and feeling that you don't matter have been linked to poorer adjustment.

"Under some conditions, such as when personal choice is restricted, adolescents view behavioural control as negatively as psychological control. Such negative interpretations may mean that adolescents would respond as poorly to highly restrictive behavioral control as they do to psychological control," the authors said.

Here's the secret to a happy marriage

. Tuesday, November 3, 2009

Forget candlelit dinners, romantic weekends away and showering your other half with compliments, the secret to a happy marriage is easy - the woman should be smarter than the man and at least five years younger.

A Bath University team, which recently did a study, has found that men who choose wife at least five years younger to them and even preferably smarter are more likely to sustain the relationship longer.

The researchers first read five-year-old interviews of more than 1,500 couples who were either married or in a serious relationship. Then they followed it up by checking on 1,000 of the interviewed couples to see how many of the pairs were still going strong, reports the BBC news.

The group noted that in cases where the wife was five or more years older than her husband, they were more than three times as likely to divorce than if they were the same age. However, when the age gap was reversed, the odds of marital bliss got higher. The researchers also observed that couple who had never divorced were more likely to maintain a stable love life.

Dr Emmanuel Fragniere and colleagues concluded that people generally seek partners "on the basis of love, physical attraction, similarity of taste, beliefs and attitudes, and shared values." However, "objective factors" like age, education and cultural origin "may help reduce divorce".

Babies as young as seven months can read

Aussie parents believe that babies as young as seven months can learn to read with a help of a novel program involving DVDs and word cards.

US founder of ‘Your Baby Can Read’, Dr Bob Titzer, claims that the program, which costs 219.95 dollars, is fun and infants who use it do better at school.

However, some experts have condemned the concept calling it "absurd" and potentially damaging, reports the Daily Telegraph.

Titzer said virtually all babies could learn to read.

Viktoria Andreeva started teaching her son Artem to read at 2 1/2 months, showing him Your Baby Can Read videos for five minutes at a time and now at seven months, he can identify words like bellybutton, lion and blanket.

Here's why churchgoers drink and smoke less

. Monday, November 2, 2009
0 comments

Churchgoers drink and smoke less than adults who spend their Sundays elsewhere but a US study had found it may not be church attendance itself that explains this -- it could be their genes.

The study of nearly 1,800 adult male twins found in adolescence, the relationship between church attendance and lower rates of drinking and smoking appeared largely due to "shared" environment, the factors influencing both members of a twin pair.

That is, teenagers who attended church regularly were more likely to want to follow their parents' wishes and conform to community expectations.

By adulthood, however, those environmental influences had faded, the researchers found. Instead, genes seemed to account for the relationship between church-going and lesser alcohol
and nicotine use.

In this case, genes may enter the picture via their influence over a person's natural temperament, the researchers wrote in the American Journal of Psychiatry.

Many adults who continue to regularly go to church, they speculated, may also be the type who would limit their drinking and avoid smoking.

"Church attendance is one of the strongest correlates of substance abuse," researcher Kenneth Kendler, of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond, told reporters.

"Understanding the underlying nature of this association is important because of what it tells us about the causes of substance use."

The study included 469 identical twin pairs and 287 pairs of fraternal twins, all of whom were interviewed twice over six years. The men were asked about their current church attendance and smoking
and drinking habits, as well as their habits during adolescence.

Twin studies like these allow researchers to disentangle the effects of genes, shared environment like home life and parenting practices, and non-shared environment such as friendships and other factors unique to an individual, on a given behavior or disease risk.

Identical twins share all of their genes, while fraternal twins share about half of their genes, on average. So if genes, for example, hold a stronger influence over a particular behavior than shared environment does, identical twins would be more similar in that behavior than fraternal twins would be.

Kendler's team found that when it came to the link between church-going and substance use, the roles of environment changed over time.

By adulthood, shared environment seemed to have almost no role.

Instead, genes largely explained the relationship, with some role of non-shared environmental factors also being apparent.

As adults, the researchers point out, twins' personal relationships, with friends and partners, likely take on more importance than the shared family influences that were key in the teen years.

It's not clear how broadly applicable these findings might be, the researchers noted.

All of the study participants were white men, and most were Protestant, 60 percent of whom were Baptist or fundamentalist.

"Our results may not extrapolate to other populations with different patterns of religious affiliations," they wrote.

Why are Indian families shrinking?

. Sunday, November 1, 2009

As one of four siblings, fashion designer Anjana Bhargav can’t remember a time when her house wasn’t "full of people". "My two sisters and brother were always fighting over who got to sit on the ‘favourite dining table chair’," she recalls. “There was always food being cooked for our family of six, and I, as the oldest, was frequently pulled away from my favourite hobby of reading fashion magazines to referee fights between the others.”

Her husband Atul Bhargav, president, New Delhi Trader’s Association, who also has two sisters and a brother, had much the same kind of upbringing. But now that they are a couple, Anjana and Atul’s decision to have just one child has ensured that their daughter Ankita will have a very different life. “She didn’t have to fight for our attention, or share her room,” says Anjana.

And baby makes three
It’s not just the Bhargavs, many other middle class and upper middle class urban couples across India, just like the rest of the world, are choosing to have just one child. “A shift in attitude is taking place and the number of people having one child is on the increase,” says Shireen Jejeebhoy, senior associate, Population Council.

Dr Kaushiki Dwivedee, senior consultant obstetrician and gynecologist, unit head, Max Hospital, Gurgaon, explains, “Forty-five per cent of the women who come to me, who are in their late 30s, have just one child. In fact, lots of younger women too have one child. But I am not counting them since they could still be making up their minds.”

The one-child family is fast moving toward becoming the norm in urban circles. Susan Newman, a social psychologist at Rutgers University, USA, and author of Parenting an Only Child, says, “I actually call the only child the new traditional family. This generation is witnessing the drastic downsizing of the family structure.”

So, there may be a time very soon when the government’s famous family planning slogan – Hum Do Hamare Do – could soon become Hum Do Hamara Ek. Consider these statistics: According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS), the percentage of ever married women who want 0, 1 or 2 children has increased from 40 per cent in 1992-93 to 65 per cent in 2005-06.

Says Shireen Jejeebhoy, “That’s a great leap. Also, if you examine the statistics of ever married women who want a single child, that number has increased from 3 per cent in 1992-93, to 5 per cent in 1998-99, to 7 per cent in 2005-6.” She adds that the figure should be more because there are more women who do not want more than one child, but do not have access to or do not practice contraception. “This is termed ‘unmet need’,” says Jejeebhoy, adding that 10 per cent of women in urban areas have accidental and unplanned pregnancies.

Under pressure
There are many reasons why couples are choosing to restrict the size of their families. Sometimes, the decision comes about because of a series of constraints. Kathak dancer Shovana Narayan (who has three siblings), and her diplomat husband Dr Herbert Traxl (who has two), chose to have just one child – 24-year-old Irwin Ishan – for “purely practical reasons”. Says Narayan, “ I was very busy with my career. And there were long stretches in our marriage when my husband and I were on separate continents. That isn’t the best way to bring up children.” Dr Traxl agrees: “Our lifestyle didn’t allow us the choice to have more kids.”

Dr Kiran Bedi, India’s first and highest ranking woman officer in the Indian Police Service, also chose to have just one child, despite coming from a family of six, because she was a working mother with a high-pressure job who still wanted to do justice to her child. Her daughter Saina also has just one child.

Still other couples make their decision since they feel they cannot afford to have more than one child. Says 32-year-old homemaker Swati Mahendra, “My husband is the only earning member of our family. We can manage quite well now that our daughter Aastha is just two years old. But we know that very soon, our expenses will only rise once she begins school.” She adds, “We want to give her the best education and lifestyle, and we know we can only do that if we have one child. That’s why we haven’t considered having another baby.”

Anxious women may have smaller babies

. Thursday, October 29, 2009

Women with severe and chronic anxiety during pregnancy are more likely to have smaller babies, says a new study.

The study authors demonstrated that the mother's anxiety during pregnancy impacts birth outcomes, including smaller babies, over and beyond factors such as drug use, education and race.

Low to moderate levels of anxiety in women during either the first or second trimester did not significantly affect the birth outcomes, but women who are severely anxious during much of their pregnancy should be considered for anxiety-reducing interventions.

Shahla M. Hosseini of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre, co-authored the study with Minhnoi W. Biglan, Cynthia Larkby, Maria M. Brooks, Michael B. Gorin and Nancy L. Day.

"One way to prevent health problems in children and adults is to focus care on the prenatal period," the authors note.

"It is key to pursue further research which addresses interventions to ameliorate the effects that a woman's trait anxiety has on the development of foetuses," they said.

The study was published in Paediatric and Perinatal Epidemiology.

An online dating site exclusively for beautiful people is set to be launched on a global platform, despite criticism.

Beautifulpeople.com was first launched in Denmark and ever since has opened in several countries including Britain, the United States and Japan.

The site insists applicants must submit a photograph of themselves to allow existing members to decide through an online rating system whether they are attractive enough to be admitted.

“Is it shallow to want to be with someone you’re attracted to? If you are in a bar or a club and you are going to approach someone, you’ll approach someone you’re attracted to. There’s nothing shallow in that,” the Telegraph quoted Greg Hodge, 34, managing director of the site as saying.

“People are fed up wasting time and money meeting unattractive people on the net,” he added.

The website also promises successful applicants “glamorous parties, a jet-set global network” and “potential contracts from top modelling agencies”.

China's 1st "haunted house" spooks this Halloween

. Tuesday, October 27, 2009

This Halloween, prepare to be scared in China.

The country's first Halloween haunted house attraction is spooking the crowds in Shanghai, with its creators hoping to cash in on the traditions of the ancient, but essentially Western, festival to commemorate the dead.

While China has a rich tradition of ghosts and ghouls of its own, Halloween is a non-event for most Chinese, who hold their own commemoration for the dead during the Qingming festival or Tomb-Sweeping Day usually marked in April.

But the creators of the "Shanghai Nightmare" attraction, 26-year-old American-Chinese Gan Quan and his girlfriend Xu Jiali, said it's about time Chinese got a taste of Halloween.

"I grew up in the United States and we have Halloween traditions. And over here, there's something missing," Gan, who came to Shanghai a year ago, told reporters.

"People party, they go drinking, they go to the bars, but there's still that one part of Halloween that didn't exist. And we thought, what a perfect way to combine our efforts than to put up a haunted house in Shanghai."

"Shanghai Nightmare" is set in a crumbling, century-old warehouse along Suzhou Creek and features more than 13 chambers filled with gory scenes, sound and light effects and actors dressed as ghosts and goblins that attack visitors.

Gan and Xu, who quit their jobs to dedicate themselves to the project, said they combined their engineering and art training to create the haunted house.

They declined to say how much it cost but said the attraction took a year to set up.

"Shanghai Nightmare" opened in late September and is set to spook the town until Halloween, or October 31.

But the organizers say they are considering staying open for longer due to strong demand, and perhaps set up another, bigger attraction next year.

"At least for the time being, the response from the public has been overwhelming," Xu said. "At first, we did not do very well in publicizing ourselves, so much fewer people came. But the people who came gave us good reviews and this led to all their friends knowing about this fun project."

Visitors pay between 98 yuan and 188 yuan ($14-$28) for tickets and some said it was definitely worth it.

"Previous haunted houses such as those in carnivals are not as well done as this one. The actors here very professional," said 22-year-old Huang Kai.

Secret behind passionate kiss revealed

Ummmms’ and ‘aaahhhs’ are not the only co-partners of kissing, for a passionate lip-lock unleashes a chain of chemical changes that really turn your head, claims a new study.

As Valentine's Day approaches, Wendy Hill, professor of psychology at Lafayette College, Pennsylvania has taken the opportunity to shed light on that most basic of all human expressions of love – the smooch.

In her study, Wendy has found that a meeting of lips can spark a complex chemical surge into the brain that makes a lover feel excited, happy or relaxed.

Also, it is being speculated that the hormone release may be triggered directly by an exchange of sexually stimulating pheromones in the saliva.

“This study shows kissing is much more complex and causes hormonal changes and things we never thought occurred,” The Times quoted her, as saying.

“We tend to think more about who we are kissing and how it feels, yet there are a lot of other things happening,” she added.

To reach the conclusion, the research team looked at the impact of kissing on levels of two hormones, oxytocin and cortisol, in 15 male-female couples before and after holding hands and before and after kissing.

Oxytocin is known to be involved in social bonding so the researchers predicted that its levels would rise, while cortisol, a stress hormone, would fall. The results showed cortisol levels fell in both sexes, although oxytocin levels rose in men but fell in women.

9 things never to say to a Woman

. Tuesday, October 20, 2009
0 comments

One moment they are so loving and coy that they make you feel like a giant grizzly, who should protect them from this big, bad world; and the next they are bored and spat venom at whatever you may say. But try to imagine a woman who would always do what you asked her to do, said the right things, loved you for whatever you are worth – wouldn’t it be a tad boring?

Before you say ‘no’, I would like to remind you that you fell for the woman because of her fire, her nastiness, her love and of course, the passion she always displays. But to stay on her right side, you have to know what not to say to her ever. And she will love you forever.

1. May I kiss you?
You are a man who she is out on date with. By asking such a question you are putting yourself in jeopardy. A man should never ‘ask’ for a kiss as it goes against everything a woman is looking for in a man. You may as well just tell her right there that you are a boy. Eight times of out nine, she is likely to say ‘no’ – so why even say it in the first place? If you so want to kiss her, grab her and plant a passionate one on her lips and watch her expression – she is going to love you forever!

2. May I take you out on a date?
Women like men to lead, to be in control. When you say something like this, like the above number 1, you lead her to believe you want to follow her. She is not looking for a wimp – but a man to be in control. Ask her out, but in a confident manner, something like, “Hey let’s meet up for some drinks tonight?” Be specific, not wishy-washy, tell her the venue and time. And also tell her you’d like her to be punctual. C’mon, there is no harm in coming across as no-nonsense. It might win you brownie points. At least she will open her eyes and look at you.

3. I have it all
Anything about your car, job or house that sounds like you are trying to impress her, should not be talked about. Do you know what kind of guys brag about their cars, jobs and houses to women? Well, the truth is a lot of different kinds of guys, but women put them all in one category: guys who have nothing else to offer. Ask any attractive woman about this and she’ll agree. Sure, you may attract some women, but even those women will be far more impressed by your material possessions if you don't mention them in conversation

4. What do you want to do?
There is a saying that a woman likes a ‘man with a plan’ and it is absolutely true. When you call a woman to hang out, make sure you have a game plan. Don’t put the burden on her or she won’t see you as the type of guy who can show her a good time.

5. How do you feel about me?
The fact that she is willing to go out with you, is indication enough. Don’t ask obvious questions. You not only sound under-confident but also come across as someone who needs constant reassurance. And this can be very tedious. So don’t ask, just assume she likes you, and go from there. Why shouldn’t she like you?

6. I called, but you didn’t call me back
If she doesn’t bring up the matter, don’t say anything about the call you made which she didn’t return or the message she didn’t reply to. Think it never happened and proceed forward. By asking her this there are two things 1. Showing that you care that she didn’t return it. And it’s too early for you to care buddy; 2. Giving her a guilt trip, which women see as insecurity.

7. How many men have you dated before me?
How do you care how many men she has dated before you? As long as she is nice with you and you two are having fun, it is okay. Remember to give a relationship enough time before asking personal or intimate questions. By asking such questions, you may be sealing your own fate. What if she never calls you after this date? You wouldn’t want that to happen. It is okay if she brings it up. But trust me, you don’t want to be the one to start this conversation. You can only lose.

8. Let’s go bowling tomorrow
This is date number one. You don’t know about date number two. So don’t even hint about it by saying ‘Let’s eat Thai food next time.’ Stop, stop, stop, stop! While this sounds good in theory, you must remember that women not only want but need a guy who is somewhat of a “challenge.” You may want to do some fun activities together, but don’t let her know that she has “won you over” too quickly or you’ll come off just like every other guy she’s gone out with that is ready to “put a ring on it” after date No. 1.

9. I know what we should do
While on the phone, avoid saying tomorrow or next time we’ll go there’ as you are killing any spontaneity by being predictable. Second, you are also killing any chances of her calling you, as she has to now wait for your call or risk looking desperate. Not good.

To kiss or not to kiss keeps: Pak Tweeters wonder

The hullabaloo over public display of affection at a premier educational institute in Pakistan refuses to die down with the tech-savvy now taking to Twitter to debate the issue.

The public display of affection – PDA for short and the academic nomenclature for a kiss – was first objected to by a senior woman student during the holy month of Ramzan. She spotted two students kissing and raised hell by circulating a mass email on the university campus mail system.

Tajwar Awan, a senior at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), shot off the email which has since evoked a mixed response from students. While some students "reconverted" to Islam, others poked fun at Awan for bringing it up.

The university administration has promised to issue a code of conduct on the campus after Awan furnished "documentary evidence" of the kiss.

Khaver Siddiqi, known in the tweeting world as "thekarachikid", had a good laugh over the controversy. "Ha. Ha. Ha. No kissing allowed," read his tweet to his friends. Alisa Harris tweeted that she was glad she didn't live in Pakistan.

Hafsa Arain sent out a "oh boy!" message after hearing the news about the proposed ban on the campus. Another student tweeted that the controversial kiss was not a kiss but a peck. LUMS students, most of whom seem to favour public display of affection on the campus, are ferociously blogging about the issue.

Imran Baloch wrote on his blog, "As a LUMS student, I am sad to hear that the premier institute has taken away the personal rights of students."

"Socially if I look at it, on the one hand there are many of my friends who do not shake hands. On the other hand there are female friends who shake hands as well as kiss on the cheek. To me it is one's personal choice and matter of comfort. No one should have right to dictate someone what is right or wrong".

"I expect LUMS would relook this (the proposed ban on public display of affection), else student bodies should challenge the behaviour regulation," he concluded.

Awan's mail did elicit the desired response on the campus. A male student responded with a sarcastic "I have sinned" email. "I shave twice a week and my 'painchas' (trousers) hang obstinately below my heels. I have a penchant for ties that resemble the Christian cross and my satanic dress code is causing me to stray far far away from the straight path.

"During the holy month, instead of attending Koranic recitals in the mosque, I was listening to the demonic sounds of (British rock band) Pink Floyd," he wrote.

Men knew it all along. And now a new study has made it official: women shed tears more often than blokes, for longer, and in a more dramatic way. Woman crying

In the study, the German Society of Ophthalmology found that women cry on average between 30 and 64 times a year whereas men cry just six to 17 times during the same period, reports The Telegraph.

From analyses, boffins found that men tend to cry for between two and four minutes, but for women, sessions last around six minutes. And in 65 per cent of cases the crying episode turns into a full-blown sobbing session, compared to just six per cent for males. However, up until 13, there is no difference when it comes to waterworks "showing that blubbing because of joy, sadness or anger is something that is learned," the boffins claimed.

As for the reasons for bawling, the paper found that females cry when they feel inadequate, when they are confronted by situations that are difficult to resolve or when they remember past events.

In case of men, they tend to cry from empathy or when a relationship fails.
