The allegations of extramarital affairs are often associated with men who are perceived to be promiscuous. However, a Wake Forest University researcher debunks the stereotype with his new finding.
According to Andrew Irwin-Smiler, majority of boys and men prioritize and value emotional connection to their partner.
“As a culture, we have a perception that men just want sex and that all men are promiscuous,” said Smiler.
But the research shows that while men do have more partners than women, most men only have one partner at a time as majority of boys and men seek emotional connection with their partner.
Smiler’s research also shows that the popular media fuels the perception that men are promiscuous with television characters such a Fonzie in Happy Days, Hawkeye Pierce in Mash, Sam Malone in Cheers, Joey Tribbiani in Friends and Charlie Harper in 2 ½ Men.
The high-profile scandals involving public figures only add to the common misperceptions of men’s sexual behaviour.
“The question is whether the media reflects reality or creates reality?” Smiler said.

Census to quiz Britons who are they sleeping with!
Labels: Britain, Men, sex, Women’
The latest census in Britain has been branded as a sex snoopers’ charter after revelations that it would ask citizens private questions like who are they sleeping with.
Controversial new forms will ask citizens to reveal the number of bedrooms in their homes, and the name, sex, age and address of overnight visitors.
Ministers stopped short of including a question on people’s sexuality, fearing it would spark a backlash.
The 32-page Census form is aimed at creating a comprehensive image of social trends in the UK every 10 years.
And residents can be fined 1,000 pounds for supplying false information or failing to return the form.
The Parliament has yet to approve the proposals, but a draft form is due to be put before MPs in the next few days.
However, conservatives have branded the 2011 Census a sex snoopers’ charter.
“These bedroom snoopers are another sign of how the Labour Government has no respect for the privacy of law-abiding citizens,” The Daily Express quoted Shadow Cabinet minister Nick Hurd as saying.

It's official: Women can't keep secrets!
Labels: life style, Relations, Women’Most women cannot keep a secret for more than 47 hours, a new survey has revealed.
In the survey involving 3,000 women aged 18 to 65, four in 10 respondents admitted that they cannot keep a secret, no matter how personal or embarrassing.
While 83 per cent of women believe they are “completely trustworthy” and three in four claim they would never betray a confidence, it is unlikely they keep their lips sealed. And their likely confidante is their husband, boyfriend, mother or best friend.
Nearly 45 per cent said they blurt out secrets just to get it off their chests and then most of them feel guilty. More than half blamed alcohol for blurting out the secrets.
“It’s official – women can’t keep secrets,” the Daily Express quoted Michael Cox, UK director of Wines of Chile, which commissioned the research, as saying.
“What we didn’t bank on was how quickly these are passed on. Every Brit who has confided in a friend should be worried,” he added. Women hear at least three nuggets of gossip a week – about sex, affairs, or how much so-and-so really spent on that handbag.

70% Of Women Hesitate To Seek Medical Help For Vaginal Dryness, Pain
Labels: Health, Medical Help, Pain, Vaginal Dryness, Women’
A new study has revealed that nearly 70 pct of postmenopausal women feel embarrassed to talk about vaginal dryness and pain, and hesitate to seek medical help.
The survey showed that nearly 39 pct of post-menopausal women experience these symptoms of vaginal atrophy and 40 percent agree that it interferes with their sex life.
Local symptoms such as painful intercourse, vaginal dryness, itching, burning, and soreness are caused, like other menopausal symptoms, by the gradual decline of oestrogen production in ovaries.
Seven out of ten said they were reluctant to talk about the problem with their physician.
As result a quarter would wait for over a year before finally contacting their physician. The survey showed only 30 percent of women considered talking to a gynaecologist, and only 29 percent considered talking to a GP.
"The results of this survey really highlight my experiences of treating menopausal women and in my practice in Italy it is even worse. I see many women who have vaginal dryness and pain post-menopause, and the most alarming aspect is that they wait for so long, with only 17 percent of surveyed women taking a treatment to counteract these symptoms." said Dr. Rossella Nappi, Director of the Gynecological Endocrinology and Menopause Unit at the Maugeri Foundation, University of Pavia, Italy.
"In addition to the physical pain that affects the women, there is an emotional impact on them and their partner as well.

Women have sex to relieve boredom
Labels: boredom, sex, Women’
Women indulge in sex not for love and passion, but for various other "unromantic" reasonsâ including relieving themselves of boredom, out of pity for a man and even to cure a migraine headacheâsays a new book.
'Why Women Have Sex' by Cindy Meston and David Buss has highlighted 200 reasons as to why women have sexual intercourse.
While attraction ranks way down in the list, it seems that women go to bed with their partners as a way of relieving boredom, keeping the peace, curing a headache and even as a thank you for a nice dinner.
"Research has shown that most men find most women at least somewhat sexually attractive, whereas most women do not find most men sexually attractive at all," the Telegraph quoted the authors, who are both psychology professors at the University of Texas, as saying.
The researchers interviewed 1,006 women as research for the book, and found some very surprising answers.
One revealed that she did it for a spiritual experience, as she thought it to be "the closest thing to God".
Others listed "cure for stress headache", "to make my sexual skills better" and "for a clearer complexion".
However, the majority (84 per cent), admitted that they had sex to ensure a quiet life or to bargain for their partners to carry out household chores.
"I have sex to relieve the boredom. Because it's easier than fighting. Plus it gives me something to do," said one of the interviewee.
While another admitted: "I had sex with a couple of guys because I felt sorry for them."
One of the surveys carried out by the authors revealed that one in ten women admitted having sexual intercourse in return for presents, or lavish meals.
Responses included "he bought me a nice dinner" or "he spent a lot of money on me early on", "he gave me gifts early on" and "he showed me he had an extravagant lifestyle".

Women more likely to cheat on their partners than men
Labels: Cheating, Men, partners, relationships, sex, Women’And you thought men do all the "goofing around" when the topic of long-term relationships arises â a new shocking UK poll has found that women are more likely to cheat on their partners than men.
Four out of 10 admitted they had been unfaithful compared to just three out of 10 men, the surprising study found.
The poll of 3,000 adults discovered that two fifths of cheats ended up kissing someone while out clubbing while almost one in four cheated with a colleague at a work event.
Fifty five per cent of the ladies confessed that they loved attention from men â and more than a third said men often get the wrong idea because they were so flirtatious.
More than a third also claim their ''''minor indiscretion'''' happened by accident because their flirting got out of hand.
The study was conducted by Opera North to open their new season with the Mozart opera Cosi fan tutte, translated as ''''All Women Are Like That'''' â a light-hearted comedy that looks at the very nature of infidelity, reports The Daily Express.
More than one in 10 women say they will never be completely monogamous in a relationship because life is too short.
A fifth of women admit they get a thrill from cheating on their partner, and despite knowing it is wrong want to do it again.
The poll also showed one in four women find complete strangers attractive and love the thrill of chasing them on a night out.
A further one in four said they could not resist the temptation of a man in uniform.

Women prefer shorter sex, while males Longer
Labels: Men, sex, Women’A new study has shown that female fruit flies prefer keeping sex short and sweet because they get a reproductive boost from shorter intercourse.
Since males like sex to last longer, a fight ensues.
"After about a minute and a half (of mating), the female begins kicking and struggling," National Geographic News quoted Kirsten Klappert, of the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, as having written in the study report.
The researcher notes that when mating lasts longer, female flies have less time to mate again with a different male, if they do so at all.
Although that is good for males flies, as it means that their sperm have less competition, it can be disastrous for females.
"Many male Drosophila montana are infertile, so if you only mate with one you have a high risk of no offspring at all," Klappert said.
During the study, Klappert's team paired live males with dead females to see how much control female flies have over mating length.
The dead insects were propped up to convince the males that they were still alive, and ready for sex, said the researchers.
The team observed that male flies' sex with the dead insects lasted 1.5 times longer than it did with live females.
This finding does attain significance because scientists at other institutions believe that humans can relate to the female fruit fly's desires.
Rhonda Snook, a senior lecturer at the University of Sheffield in England who studies sexual selection and reproductive behaviour in fruit flies, said: "I don''''t know you could say human females want longer copulation, per se. It''''s really the foreplay, not the actual act of copulation. In the insects, prior to that, there''''s courtship going on, and that''''s like foreplay in humans."
A research article describing Klappert's study has been published in the journal BMC Evolutionary Biology. Klik disini untuk melanjutkan »»Saturday, August 15, 2009

Red wine ‘boosts sexual desire in Women’
Labels: Red wine, sexual desire, Women’
Move over sex toys and tantric art, a glass or two of red wine aremore than enough to increase a woman’’s libido, say researchers.
As for the reason: Italian doctors, who carried out the study, claim that chemical compounds found in red wine may boost sexual functioning by increasing blood flow to key areas of the body, The Telegraph reported.
To reach the conclusion, doctors at the university of Florence recruited 800 women aged 18 to 50. None of the women had ever reported a sexual health problem.
The volunteers were split into three groups – those who regularly consumed one or two glasses of red wine a day, those who consumed less than one glass a day of any sort of wine or other alcohol, and those who were teetotal.
In order to avoid the possible confounding effects of drunkenness, females who drank more than two glasses a day were excluded from the study.
The participants finished a questionnaire, the Female Sexual Function Index. It included 19 questions with a total score range between two and 36, with higher scores meaning better functioning.
Overall the red wine drinkers scored an average of 27.3 points, compared to 25.9 for the less-frequent tipplers and 24.4 for the non-drinkers.
From analysis, it was found that levels of sexual desire were higher in women who were moderate drinkers of red wine than in their counterparts who preferred other alcoholic drinks, or were teetotal.
The researchers said: “While this finding needs to be interpreted with some caution, it nevertheless suggests a potential relationship between red wine consumption and better sexuality.”
