Why men stare at women’s bre-asts

Ladies complaining that men talk to their boobs instead of looking at their face are not without a point, for researchers have discovered that nearly half of men first stare at women's chest when they first meet.

Experts at the New Zealand-based University of Wellington found that 47 per cent of men first gaze at the breasts, while another third at a woman's waist or hips.

“Eighty per cent of first fixations were on the breasts and midriff. Men spent consistently more time looking at the breasts and also made significantly more fixations upon them than other regions,” the Sun quoted the study as saying.

Interestingly, less than 20 per cent met the woman’s eye while looking at her face.

Scientists believe: "Men may be looking more often at the breasts because they are simply aesthetically pleasing, regardless of the size."

Women who drink red wine enjoy better sex lives, a study reveals.

Researchers from the University of Florence in Italy quizzed 800 women between 18 and 50 about their sexual satisfaction.

Women on two glasses of red a day scored higher than one glass drinkers. Teetotallers did worst.

Dr Nicola Mondaini said: "The link between wine and sexuality has been known since the time of Ancient Greece."

Should girls play Hardsex to get?

While guys are always told to 'treat them mean and keep them keen', users in the MY Sun Woman forum wondered if the reverse was true.

Should girls play hard to get in order to bag themselves a man? Does making a fella chase after you result in a dream date or disaster? reports The Sun.

Goagirl is dubious at best: "I doubt it works. A relationship based on game playing is usually doomed to fail. It is cruel, dishonest and childish."

Mind games make for a bad start to a relationship for gem79: "I never play hard to get, I don't like playing with peoples emotions, it's really not nice."

chelle-pell suggests that boys get bored by babes keeping their distance: "A few of the guys I know tell me it's quite a turn off when a woman tries to make them chase after her, and they simply lose interest."

Giving us a guy's point of view, mick thinks women shouldn't get too carried away with playing it cool: "If the guy really likes the girl she might get away with it for a while, says The Sun.

"But she should give an indication that she is also interested if she wants to string him along."

However, ScienceGirl reckons being elusive is a great way to weed out the time-wasters: "What's wrong with playing a bit hard to get? It's been a tried and tested method throughout the ages!

"Nice guys don't need to be played with, you know they won't steer you wrong. It's the ones you're not too sure about, and you need to be sure they are after you for the right reasons.

"I find making guys work for my attention separates the wheat from the chaff."

Here's why women have Sex

Women indulge in sex not for love and passion, but for various other 'unromantic' reasons — including relieving themselves of boredom, out of pity for a man and even to cure a migraine headache, says a new book.

'Why Women Have Sex' by Cindy Meston and David Buss has highlighted 200 reasons as to why women have sexual intercourse. While attraction ranks way down in the list, it seems that women go to bed with their partners as a way of relieving boredom, keeping the peace, curing a headache and even as a thank you for a nice dinner.

"Research has shown that most men find most women at least somewhat sexually attractive, whereas most women do not find most men sexually attractive at all," the Telegraph quoted the authors, who are both psychology professors at the University of Texas, as saying.

The researchers interviewed 1,006 women as research for the book and found some very surprising answers. One revealed that she did it for a spiritual experience, as she thought it to be "the closest thing to God". Others listed "cure for stress headache", "to make my sexual skills better" and "for a clearer complexion".

However, the majority (84 per cent), admitted that they had sex to ensure a quiet life or to bargain for their partners to carry out household chores.
"I have sex to relieve the boredom. Because it’s easier than fighting. Plus it gives me something to do,” said one of the interviewee. While another admitted: "I had sex with a couple of guys because I felt sorry for them."

One of the surveys carried out by the authors revealed that one in ten women admitted having sexual intercourse in return for presents or lavish meals.
Responses included "he bought me a nice dinner" or "he spent a lot of money on me early on", "he gave me gifts early on" and "he showed me he had an extravagant lifestyle".

Smart people are Sexier

. Tuesday, September 8, 2009

A person's sex quotient lies in his or her brain, according to a study that suggests that being smart is sexy, and the smartest males get the most partners.

Working womenThrough a study on Australian birds, a team of researchers have lent support to the idea that our big human brain evolved because it is a sexually attractive organ, not just a useful one.

According to the above theory, signs of intelligence - such as creating art, music, and humour - could have made the brainiest people luckiest in love.

The theory was hugely discussed in the book The Mating Mind by an evolutionary psychologist, Geoffrey Miller, almost a decade ago.

Jason Keagy, of the University of Maryland in the US, said that testing the theory in humans was very difficult, and thus he chose to observe satin bowerbirds at Wallaby Creek in NSW instead.

He claimed that Bowerbirds are intelligent.

"But they're not as complex as humans," Stuff.co.nz quoted him as saying.

Keagy could get an accurate record of the male birds'sexual success by videotaping their every movement.

"They can't really lie to us," he said.

Known for their fascination with blue objects, bowerbirds have a strong aversion to red.

In the first IQ test, the researchers placed three red objects under a clear plastic container in their bower, and found that the smartest males could remove the cover and carry away the offending objects in 20 seconds.

"It looks pretty simple, but some weren't able to do it," said Keagy.

In a second braintwister, he glued a red object down and observed that some bowerbirds kept on trying in vain to pull it out, while the brighter ones quickly twigged this was impossible and covered it with leaves.

The males who failed the plastic container test were spurned.

"No females were mating with them," said Keagy.

However, the smartest birds attracted up to 20 female partners a season.

"This is the first evidence [in any species] that individuals with better problem-solving abilities are more sexually attractive," he said.

He claimed that greater intelligence could allow male bowerbirds to woo more females because they can build more elaborate bowers, are better dancers or are more responsive to subtle cues from the females during courtship.

Alternative theories to the mating mind include that our large brain evolved because it was advantageous for hunting or living in social groups, and cultural creativity was simply a fortuitous by-product of the struggle to survive.

The study has been published in the journal Animal Behaviour.

Women going online to meet sexual partners

Women aged 40 and above are just as likely as younger women to meet new sexual partners on the internet, according to a new Australian survey.

Nearly 45 per cent of the middle aged women agreed to ensnare at least one new lover in a year.

According to study leader Deborah Bateson, a senior medical coordinator at Family Planning NSW, the internet ''seems to be a very useful place for them ... It''s great that older women are out there meeting new partners."

She conducted the research to see whether 40-pluses were able to negotiate safe sex as effectively as their younger counterparts.

''Three-quarters [of sexually transmitted infections] are detected in people aged under 29, but there''s also an increase in women aged 40 and above ... entering or re-entering the dating market, perhaps after the end of a long-term relationship,'' the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Bateson as saying.

For the survey, an online dating site RSVP, owned by the Herald's publisher, Fairfax Media, sent an email to female participants, directing them to Bateson's survey site.

The findings revealed that older women were more forthright in insisting on knowing a new partner's sexual history.

Nearly 59 per cent of the over-40s would ask about previous partners, versus 43 per cent of the younger women, with a similar discrepancy in willingness to ask about intravenous drug use.

''''The older women seemed to benefit from the maturity of years and asked those potentially tricky questions,'''' said Bateson.

However, 37 per cent of the older women were more likely to agree to sex without a condom, compared to 28 per cent of younger women.

The findings were presented at 2009 Australasian Sexual Health Conference in Brisbane.

Beautiful women actually impair the male Brain

. Sunday, September 6, 2009

Men really do lose their minds while talking to an attractive woman, concludes a new study.

The study, published in the Journal of Experimental and Social Psychology, has found that attractive women actually impair the male brain.

And psychologists say this is because males are "reproductively focused".

In the study, researchers found that men who spent even a few minutes in the company of a woman they found attractive performed less well in memory tests, reports The Daily Express.

Programmed by evolution to try to pass on their genes, psychologists at Radboud University in The Netherlands said males try so hard to impress the object of their desire that they have little brain power left for other tasks.

Women, on the other hand, were not affected by chatting to handsome men, probably because they focus on more than looks, the researchers said.

The findings have implications for the performance of men who flirt with women in the workplace, or even exam results in mixed-sex schools.

Cutting down on cholesterol

. Saturday, September 5, 2009

Cholesterol is a wax like substance found in our blood stream. Though the liver is responsible for the production of two-thirds of the cholesterol, the rest of it comes from what you eat.

Most of the cholesterol that ends up narrowing your arteries and contributing to heart disease comes from whole-milk products and meat. However, some cholesterol is required by the body to maintain cell membranes, insulate the nerve fibres, manufacture bile and Vitamin D and, most importantly, to produce steroid and sex hormones.

But when the level of total cholesterol crosses 200 mg/ dl (milligram per decilitre), heart attacks, strokes and arthrosclerosis aren’t at bay anymore.

The power of oat bran
Healthy eating habits form the cornerstone of any cholesterol control regime. You must have heard of oat bran’s power to lower the cholesterol count. It has a special kind of fibre called beta-glucan, which binds with the cholesterol in your digestive tract and helps in its elimination. But oats are not the only source of beta-glucan.

Barley has more of this special cholesterol-reducing fibre, so your chapatis should be ideally be made from barley flour. Whole pulses like rajma, kabuli chana, green chana and black chana are a few other sources of beta-glucan.

To incorporate oat bran in your diet, you can mix it with wheat flour in a 1:1 ratio to make high fibre
chapatis. These foods have significant cholesterol-reducing properties. Include these in your daily diet, and your cholesterol count reduces naturally.

In my endeavour to bring about a balance between taste and health, I have tried to create a recipe that lowers the cholesterol count in the body.

Cholesterol-cutting chutney
You will need: Coriander — 50 g; Mint — 20 g; Green chillies (as per requirement); Garlic — 20 g; Flaxseeds oil — 15 g; Isabgol — 15 g; Salt (as per taste); Lemon Juice — 10 ml; water as needed.

Procedure: Blend the above ingredients to make a fine paste.

How the ingredients of this chutney help you
Garlic is known to reduce the cholesterol levels of your body and also have some other amazing health benefits. It clears your blood of cholesterol and thins the blood in a bid to prevent blockages. A substance called allicin, which is found in garlic, is believed to be responsible for this effect. It also helps prevent constriction of blood vessels, which in turn helps lower blood pressure. Along with the health benefits that garlic provides, it adds a lot of flavour to your chutney.

ISABGOL — Also known as Psyllium, seed husk has several
benefits.
* It helps regulate bowel movements by eliminating
constipation.
* It binds with the cholesterol secreted in bile acids and excretes it before it is absorbed in the bloodstream. It’s a well-known health claim that when three to 12 g of fibre from psyllium seed husk are added to a diet already low in saturated fat and cholesterol, total cholesterol and LDL levels may reduce.
* Husk adds bulk to the stomach by absorbing water and keeps you full for a longer time, thus reducing food intake.
* Additionally, it can also aid blood sugar management by aiding in the gradual release of glucose.
FLAXSEEDS — Known commonly as Alsi, it’s the best vegetarian source of Omega-3 fats (alpha linolenic acid).
* Regular consumption has shown to significantly reduce the total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels. In many studies, those consuming flaxseeds have shown better results as compared to those taking statin drugs for cholesterol reduction.
* Omega-3 fats can help improve HDL levels and reduce the pain and inflammation that is an irrefutable symptom of conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, migraine headaches and
osteoporosis.
* Flax seeds also contain lignans (fibre) which can lower cholesterol levels and help stabilise blood sugar levels in diabetics.

Coriander and mint — These fresh herbs are found in every Indian home. They are rich in chlorophyll, aid digestion and provide a supply of fibre, which in turn can lower your cholesterol when taken in considerable amounts.
When you use food as a medicine, your body will benefit in more ways than one, making your visits to the doctor more and more infrequent. Just give it a try!

Yahoo, which is otherwise not doing very well in the tech market, has finally taken the first step towards improving its situation.

YahooThe giant has directly challenged the current favourite of netizens - Twitter and launched a microblogging platform called Yahoo Meme. Yahoo had previously launched a Portuguese language micro-blogging product, Yahoo Meme, which was obviously similar to Twitter and Tumblr.

It looks like Yahoo definitely has lofty ambitions for Yahoo Meme, as it has stealthily rolled the micro-blogging service out in Spanish and now in English to appeal to the masses. Yahoo Meme exactly works like Twitter.

Let's see if Meme does any good to Yahoo's image.

Thunder thighs' may help beat heart disease

The thinner your thighs, the greater your risk of heart disease - that's the conclusion of a new study.
According to the research, which looked at more than 2800 men and women with an average age of around 50, thigh circumference is linked to the risk of heart disease and premature death.
The study has been published in today's edition of the British Medical Journal.
It found that heart disease risk more than doubled for both men and women who had a thigh circumference of less than 55 centimetres. Those volunteers with thighs between 55 and 60 centimetres received a protective effect against heart disease. However, that protective effect reduced for people with thighs above 60 centimetres in circumference, reports ABC Science.
According to associate Professor David Cameron-Smith, of Deakin University in Melbourne, thigh circumference is a broad indicator of physical activity and muscle mass is related to how much exercise you do.
"[If] you don't use it, you lose it," he said.
Cameron-Smith says using muscles has a very strong protective effect against heart disease and diabetes.
"It's been known for a long time that muscle mass and strength are important determinants of longevity and health. Even moving from no activity to some activity has a dramatic effect," he said.
