Pakistan deprives of World Cup 2011 Matches

. Saturday, April 18, 2009

Pakistan has been deprived of its right of hosting Cricket World Cup 2011 due to security concerns, ICC said on Friday. Pakistan had to host 13 ODIs of top cricket tournament that was jointly to be hosted by four South Asian nations in 2011. But the matches and the secretariat of the tournament that had been established in Lahore has been shifted from the country due to inappropriate law and order situation. The decisions were made in a special meeting of International Cricket Council (ICC) held here to review the preparations and security situation of World Cup 2011 jointly to be hosted now by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The other three countries are likely to host the matches earlier to be played in Pakistan, ICC officials informed newsmen in a press conference. They also expressed their sorrow but said that ICC was forced to take such decisions in view of “the uncertain security situation of the country”. "It is a regrettable decision (but) our number one priority is to create certainty and...deliver a safe, secure and successful event," ICC president David Morgan told reporters after a meeting of the executive board in Dubai.
